College Success Videos (10.25.12)
We wanted to make sure to share with you an unprecedented body of work about education in Washington State. We believe this body of work belongs in every classroom, and were hoping you agree.
AANAPISI Grant and the Videos
We were incredibly fortunate to have been chosen to work with the AANAPISI Grant team* at South Seattle Community College during their first AANAPISI Grant. With them we created a 16-part video series that we think all of our colleges and schools across the state may benefit from. The series looks at a variety of issues potential higher education students face. The topics covered include funding your education, getting a strong start in school, how to navigate community college, overcoming barriers, how your family can help you be successful in school, succeeding in math and English.
Each of the videos is currently streaming on our website, with downloadable versions and hard copies available too. All the videos are closed captioned. Curriculum was also developed around the video series and available from the website. If you think these videos may be of help, we hope you will pass this information on to schools throughout the state and wherever you believe they may be of use.
The videos were created with the general population in mind, but address issues specific to the Asian American Native American Pacific Islander populations. In each video you will hear the voices of current and former students telling their stories and sharing their advice. You will also hear stories and insight from instructors, counselors and advisors.
The streamed versions are available on SCCtvs website at http://www.scctv.info/csv-ps. From this location you can access the curriculum developed around the video series.
We are also providing free downloads of the MP4 files of this video series (handy for use on iOS devices, or for streaming) and broadcast quality MPEG-2 digital file for schools and educational television stations. Access those files on our website at http://www.scctv.net/original-programming/college-success-videos. Those wishing to download the files will need to register. Users must indicate the educational institution with which they are affiliated when registering to be verified. We do not verify users indicating they are a "student" or "viewer."
We have also created a five disc DVD set containing the videos. The first four discs contain the videos themselves, closed captioned. The fifth disc contains stream-able versions of the videos in Mp4 form and all the closed caption files. Again, these files are for any educational television stations to use for broadcast or IT department for streaming. These files can also be loaded onto iPhones or iPads.
*These videos would have been possible without extensive assistance and input from all the staff, instructors and students at South Seattle Community College. Of course we would have had the opportunity to create the video series if we hadnt been chosen to work on the project, so while Im sure Ill accidentally leave important people off this list, special thanks for the incredible support we received go to Mark Mitsui, May Lukens, Rosie Rimando, Dorrienne Chinn and Arleen Williams.
Please feel free to pass this email or information on. Please let us know if you have any questions.
