The Seattle Colleges 53rd Annual Community Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. happened on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at South Seattle College's Brockey Center.
Highlights of the program include music and song by DaNell Daymon and Greater Works and keynotes by three young local scholars affiliated with Speak with Purpose that explore topics including culture, identity, social justice, and their vision for a better world. Social Justice Awards and recognition were presented in the following areas: McKinney Scholar, Seattle Colleges Program Award, and Community Hero.

A Community Conversation was held immediately after the main program. "From Protest to Action" was to topic of the discussion, hosted by Associate Vice Chancellor D'Andre Fisher with guests Eddie Rye and Angela Rye. The Community Conversation is viewable ON-DEMAND below.
The MLK celebration kicks off Seattle Colleges' MLK Social Justice Week, Jan. 20-23, 2026, honoring Dr. King's vision for racial and social justice in action. The MLK Celebration and Community Conversation will broadcast multiple times on SCCtv on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day, Monday, January 19. It will show at noon, 6:00pm and 9:00pm. SCCtv can be viewed on Comcast Ch 28 and Wave Broadband Ch 19. After these initial broadcasts, the program will show every Sunday at 7pm.
