UNSILENCED: A Decade of Musical Witness

Tonight on SCCtv (Ch 28 Comcast or Ch 19 Millennium) at 9:00pm, on SCCtv Presents, the television premiere of UNSILENCED: A Decade of Musical Witness, a film by SCCtv's John Sharify. Unsilenced features the work of Music of Remembrance (MOR), a Seattle-based chamber music organization.? MOR's mission is to rediscover forgotten works by Holocaust-era musicians and commission new works from some of today's leading composers.? MOR's founding director, Mina Miller, takes the lessons of the holocaust, the messages of Music of Remembrance, to high schools throughout Washington State.

The film, produced, written and narrated by John Sharify, had its world premiere Sunday, June 14 at the Museum of History and Industry.

"An extraordinary film about one of Seattle's most innovative and compelling musical group!" says Seattle Symphony Music Director Gerard Schwarz.

"'Unsilenced' was just a pure work of genius!? It was so well done, so informative and so touching," says MOR Board Member Joyce Rivkin.

The production re-airs several times this coming weekend on SCCtv:

A BIG NIGHT FOR SCCTV- HISTORIC!

SCCtv has won not one, but two Emmy Awards! The N.W. Regional Emmys are the first for the station in its ten year history.? "I'm thrilled. This Community College Station competed with commercial stations with huge budgets and 10 times our staffing, or more, and we won! Twice!" says SCCtv General Manager John Sharify.

Sharify won both Emmy Awards, in the category On-Camera Talent/Reporter - Programming and in the category Arts/Entertainment Advanced Media category. The awards for his story about Northwest native Doc Severinsen, of Johnny Carson fame. View the Emmy Award winning story. The Emmys are Sharify's 32nd and 33rd.

Scott Rensberger and Tim Griffis were also honored for their work on the story. ?The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Northwest announced an awards ceremony held Saturday, May 30th.? Nominated!

SCCTV is proud to announce the station has received 6 Emmy nominations, the most ever for the station. " I believe in SCCtv's history, we've received 3 Emmy nominations in the last ten years. And now this! To have 6 in one year is amazing and a testament to the hard work and talent we have right here at SCCtv. We're competing with the big boys, the commercial stations, that have huge budgets and 10 times our staffing, and yet, we did it! Now let's hope we win one. " says SCCtv General Manager John Sharify.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Northwest announced the nominations at a big party at the Century Ballroom in Seattle Friday night.

Producer Jeff Gentes received a nomination for SCCtv's "Remarkable People" in the category Documentary-Cultural/Historical.? SCCtv's? Jean Walkinshaw is profiled in the Special.? ?John Sharify was honored with five nominations in the following categories: Documentary - Topical,?? Arts/Entertainment Advanced Media, Arts/Entertainmnet - Feature Segment, and two nominations for On-Camera Talent -Reporter- Programming. ?John now has 125 Emmy nominations to go along with his 31 Emmy awards.? Tim Griffis, Scott Rensberger, Maria Lamarca Anderson, and Leslie Tung also received nominations for the projects they worked on with John.

The awards ceremony will be held May 30th at the Snoqualmie Casino. Ramshackle

You may feel you know quite a lot about Professor Fred, the host of SCCtv's Movie Marvels.? Did you know he's a rocker?? As a matter of fact, much of our staff at SCCtv rocks a little on the side.? And rock is just what they did at the NATAS Emmy Nomination event on Friday, April 10.

SSCC AANAPISI Grant

SCCtv is working with the AANAPISI Grant team, helping to produce videos.? We created an excerpt video and you can see for yourself, not only are there amazing students attending the community colleges, they are very excited and complimentary about the guidance they receive while attending.

SCC Students' Work on SCCtv Presents

The latest edition of SCCtv Presents brings you a special program produced by future filmmakers, students at Seattle Central Community College's Film and Video Program.? Their show Resource airs on SCCtv this Sunday, March 1 and Sunday, March 8 at 7:30p.m (Comcast Ch 28/Millennium Ch 19).

Still Capturing History

SCCtv began documenting elements of the tall ship Wawona, a lumber schooner built in 1897. ?It looks like the Wawona's time has finally come, with its move to nearby dry dock for dismantling scheduled for this Monday, March 2nd. ?We'll bring you footage of the move once we have it.

A Program That Could Save Lives

Knowing the risks for sudden cardiac arrest and getting immediate treatment can save lives.? But many people are unaware if they are at risk.? You may have already seen "The Shocking Truth," a television special written and hosted by SCCtv's General Manager John Sharify for The Hope Heart Institute to illustrate this message through the powerful, emotional stories of those who have been affected by sudden cardiac arrest.? The special is part of Hope Heart's mission to raise awareness of improving the physical, emotional and spiritual quality of life for all at risk of, or afflicted with, heart and blood vessel disease.? It aired first, here at SCCtv, and now the show is now airing on stations around the state.

Professor Fred was a guest yesterday on KUOW's Weekday, talking about the comfort a bad "B" horror movie offers.? Fred Hopkins, the host of SCCtv's Movie Marvels discussed just how great these bad movies can make you feel.? If you missed it, take a listen.

Rainier Radio Lives!

Rainier Radio, our Web based radio station that features regional radio from the past, has returned to the "air."? Okay, maybe you weren't aware it was off-line for a couple months while we did some behind-the-scenes work.? It's back now and you can listen to those old radio airchecks once again.? Stay tuned, we are planning a slight make-over in the not too distant future.

News Flash

SCCtv is now streaming its broadcast signal live on our Web page, www.scctv.net, utilizing the multimedia platform Flash.? SCCtv is now one of a small group of broadcast stations world-wide utilizing Flash for a live stream of their broadcast content, sending out a near-broadcast quality picture that can be seen anywhere with Web connection.? This is possible because of the smart people working at IRIS Education, the Web Technology arm of SCCtv.? Flash enables SCCtv to place a high quality picture on our Web site without many of the complications and hiccups that occur with other digital video technologies.

News of the passing of Connie Jocasta hit us hard at SCCtv.? We worked on a number of projects with her while she was working with the International Students Program at North.? We've added a link on our front page for access to the most recent video we produced with her.

The 35th Annual Martin Luther King Jr Ceremony

Seattle Community Colleges holds its MLK celebration every year to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King.? The focus of the 2009 celebration held January 16 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle is Dr. King's message for a changing world. The event was emceed by KOMO-TV News anchor and reporter, Connie Thompson, with keynote address from Mount Zion Baptist Church Senior Pastor Rev. Aaron Williams.

The event will air several times on on SCCtv, Comcast Channel 28/ Millennium Channel 19: On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 19 at 8:00p.m.; The celebration can be seen again on Wednesday, January 21 at 8:00p.m.; and a third showing will take place Sunday, January 25 at 7:00a.m.? The event will also be available for on-demand viewing on SCCtv's website, www.scctv.net , beginning Martin Luther King? Jr. Day.

The Presidential Inauguration

SCCtv, will simulcast, right here at www.scctv.net, C-SPAN's extensive coverage of the inauguration of? Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States.? The simulcast begins on Saturday, January 17 and continues through Tuesday's Events.? Following Tuesday's ceremony, SCCtv will make available, on-demand, the swearing-in and inaugural address portions of the event.

An Important Note: The inauguration is expected to draw a large viewing audience.? It is requested that if you would like to stream the inauguration as a student or staff member at Seattle Community Colleges, that you use SCCtv's stream to lessen the impact to the Colleges' bandwidth.
